The influence of secondary structure on electron transfer in peptides

We have found definitive evidence that the mechanism of electron transfer in peptides is defined by the extent of secondary structure, rather than simply chain length after investigating a series of synthetic peptides by a combined electrochemical and theoretical method. This finding has profound implications for future studies on developing molecular wires as an important step towards the the use of peptides in molecular electronic assemblies.
