Professor John Prescott
John graduated from The University of Adelaide with an honours degree in physics in 1945, before gaining doctorates from the University of Melbourne and Oxford University. After spending several years in Canada, John returned to the Adelaide Physics department to take up a chair in 1971. He started the cosmic ray group here, and was internationally known for his pioneering work in physical archaeometry, also started in Adelaide.
He formally “retired” in 1990, though as many of you know, he was still hard at work in his lab in the Oliphant wing several days a week.
John always contributed to debates within IPAS and always wanted the best for the staff and students, his humour and drive will be missed by all who worked with and knew him.
