39 Million Year Old Shells Discovered in Illumin8 Construction Site

A sample which is 39 million years old was excavated during the core drilling of the Illumin8 construction site.  It is composed of the same Tertiary (Late Eocene) fossiliferous “Blanch Point Formation” that is seen in outcrops along the Maslin Beach cliffs. Although it was too old for luminescence dating, Adj/Prof Nigel Spooner sent the specimen to the School of Geology and Geophysics who were able to provide the dating.
